Iced Ceremonial Matcha (Crystal-Clean)

Ceremonial Matcha Recipe

Iced Ceremonial Matcha

Crystal-clean, bright, and refreshing — this iced method keeps matcha smooth and vivid with no chalky texture. A short warm whisk creates a silky concentrate, then ice finishes it crisp.

No grit · Clean finish · Fast & refreshing

The idea

“Warm first, ice second”

Matcha blends best when it meets a small amount of warm water first. You create a smooth concentrate (no clumps), then dilute over ice for a clean, glassy finish.

This method is ideal for sipping straight — crisp, vibrant, and naturally sweet-leaning — without milk.

The essentials

Ingredients & Ratio

Start with a small warm whisk to fully dissolve matcha. Then pour over ice with cold water for a crystal-clean sip.

Matcha

1.5–2 g ceremonial matcha (≈ 1 tsp)

Sift for a truly clean finish.

Water + ice

30 ml warm water at 75–80°C
120–160 ml cold water
1 cup ice (or a full glass)

Adjust cold water to taste: less = stronger, more = lighter.

Tools

Bowl or small cup
Whisk or frother
Fine sieve (recommended)

Frother is great for iced: quick, smooth, consistent.

How to

The ritual steps

The “crystal-clean” secret is simple: dissolve matcha completely in a small amount of warm water first, then cool it fast over ice.

1
Sift + start warm
Sift 1 tsp (1.5–2 g) matcha into a bowl or cup. Add 30 ml warm water at 75–80°C.
2
Whisk until silky
Whisk (or froth) for 10–15 seconds until completely smooth. No foam needed — just clump-free.
3
Build over ice
Fill a glass with ice. Pour in the matcha concentrate, then add 120–160 ml cold water.
4
Stir & enjoy
Stir well (or shake in a closed jar for 5 seconds). Sip immediately for the cleanest finish.
Troubleshooting
Still chalky?
Sift the matcha and whisk longer in the warm concentrate step before adding ice.
Too strong?
Add more cold water (or ice). For lighter flavor, use 1.5 g matcha.
Too bitter?
Keep the warm water at 75–80°C (not boiling) and use ceremonial-grade matcha.
Want it sparkling?
Replace half the cold water with chilled sparkling water for a bright, extra-crisp finish.
Refresh
The cleanest iced matcha

Keep it simple: a smooth warm concentrate, cold water, and ice. Bright, crisp, and effortlessly drinkable.

Serving note For the cleanest cup, whisk the concentrate until completely smooth before it ever touches ice.

Bright matcha. Zero grit. Pure refresh.
